A massive recall of corn dogs and sausage-on-a-stick products has been issued.

Hillshire Brands has announced that 58 million pounds of its corn dog and sausage products may have pieces of wood embedded in the batter. So far, at least 5 injuries have been reported. The products, sold under various labels including State Fair and Jimmy Dean, were sold at stores nationwide as well as online and to school districts and Department of Defense facilities. The company says that wooden sticks were entered during the production process prior to the product being battered and tis caused some to fragment. The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service said that consumers with any of these products should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
