A 500-megawatt geothermal project could be built near the Salton Sea.

Controlled Thermal Resources (CTR) and Baker Hughes, an energy technology company, have entered into definitive agreements to collaborate on the development of up to 500-megawatts of baseload geothermal power at CTR's Hell's Kitchen project in Imperial County. According to the joint press release from the companies, the staged development will provide reliable power for hyperscale data centers and artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Under terms of the agreement, Baker Hughes will deploy high-temperature drilling technologies, power systems, and digital field services to bring scalable, cost-effective, and reliable geothermal energy to market. No start or completion date was released.
