Mother's Day weekend is coming up and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agriculture specialists want you to be aware of rules on importing flowers from Mexico.
Imported flowers can pose a risk to American agriculture by bringing in pests and diseases. The CBP ag specialists says certain flowers and plants are not allowed in the U.S. Roses and carnations are allowed entry after inspection but Chrysanthemum (Mums) are banned from entering through passenger ports when brought in from Mexico. Plants meant for growing must have proper permits and soil from Mexico is not permitted. All travelers must declare any plants or flowers toCBP officers upon arrival.
