High winds in the mountains shut down Interstate 8 to high profile vehicles Thursday.
The California Highway Patrol began turning around big rigs and other high-profile vehicles at about 9:00 a.m. when winds gusted up to 70 miles per hour along the highway. The closure, the second in a week, was from Alpine to Ocotillo and at one point, officers were only permitting sedan-type vehicles to proceed. The closure remained in effect until nearly 2:00 p.m.
