Imperial County residents serving on a Superior Court jury have just gotten a significant boost in their pay.
As of September 1, 2024, Imperial County jurors will receive $100 per day, starting on the second day of service. That's a big jump from the previous $15 per day. The milage reimbursement rate has also increased, from 34 cents to 67 cents per mile roundtrip.
The jump in juror pay is part of a pilot program in 7 superior courts in Alameda, El Dorado, Fresno, Monterey, San Bernardino, Shasta and Imperial counties. The pilot program is expected to remain in place through early 2026, or when funding is exhausted, whichever comes first.
Imperial County Superior Court Presiding Judge Marco D. Nunez said, "The increase in juror compensation reflects a commitment to making juror service more accessible and inclusive for all members of our community. By easing the financial burden, we hope to encourage broader participation and ensure that our juries truly represent the diverse voices of Imperial County".
