A cache of weapons was stopped at the San Luis Area Port of Entry.
U. S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers encountered a 28-year-old man driving an SUV leaving the U.S. and heading into Mexico. A CBP K-9 alerted to the vehicle and the driver, a U.S. citizen, was referred for further examination. Using non-intrusive technology, anomalies were noticed in a speaker box behind the rear seat. CBP officers were able to locate 5 AK-47 rifles, five AK-47 magazines, two 50-caliber rifles and two 50-caliber ammunition magazines hidden in the speaker box. The weapons were seized, and the driver was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations. Chris Leon, Area Port Director for San Luis said, " Preventing the smuggling of these weapons into Mexico undoubtedly saved lives. Our CBP officers remain alert and keen to disrupt illegal activity that compromises safety and security within our communities on both sides of the border".
