The Imperial Irrigation District has secured an $18.3 million federal grant.

The grant, from the U. S. Department of Energy's Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships Program, is to be used to strengthen the IID's grid reliability. The federal funding, when matched by the district, will allow the IID to modernize its electrical distribution system and enhance reliability for the 165,000 customers in the Imperial and Coachella Valleys. The project will address the increasing energy demands of the region while directly benefitting 48 Disadvantaged Communities within the IID's service area. The improvements will streamline grid operations, accelerate outage recovery, and pave the way for the integration of renewable energy sources.

IID Board President Alex Cardenas said, " The project is crucial for the District. The ADMS project will significantly boost our ability to improve power restoration, integrate renewable energy, bolster grid reliability, and create new opportunities for our communities."
