Calexico police officers made two significant arrests recently.
A suspect was arrested after a violent attack on a security guard. Surveillance video shows several men consuming alcohol outside a county building. A security guard confronted the group and one of that group assaulted the security guard, repeatedly kicking him while the guard was defenseless on the ground. The assailant was identified as Jorge Diaz. Diaz was apprehended a few days after the incident. The security guard sustained serious injuries and had to be hospitalized.
During a street enforcement operation, officers encountered a 43-year-old man, a convicted felon with a history of narcotics related offenses. The man, Daniel Rivera, was found to be in possession of fentanyl and methamphetamine. A search of Rivera's vehicle led to the discovery of a sawed-off shotgun with the serial number removed. Rivera was arrested and charged with several criminal offenses.
