The jobless rate is released by the Labor Market Information Division of the Employment Development Department. According to the latest numbers, unemployment was at 20.2% in August. That is up from the 18.9 percent in July and above the year ago estimate of 20.0%. This compares to an unadjusted unemployment rate of 5.9% for California and 4.4 % for the nation during the same period.. According to the report there were 15,500 eligible workers unemployed out of a labor fore of 76,600 in Imperial County.
