A bill that would grant an extension in efforts to fund the Imperial Valley Healthcare District (IVHD) is on the governor's desk.
SB 1070, introduced by Senator Steve Padilla, would give the IVHD two additional years to identify a funding mechanism to advance the county-wide health care needs. The bill extends the originally allotted time written into AB 918. Katie Burnworth, President of the IVHD said, "Our goal remains clear: to build a healthcare system that truly serves every community in Imperial County with the care they deserve".
So far the IVHD has created seven voting districts Valley-wide, presented a Letter of Intent to acquire El Centro Regional Medical Center, successfully dissolved the Heffernan Memorial Healthcare District and recommended December 1, 2024 as a dissolution date for Pioneers Memorial Healthcare District.
The Governor has until September 30, 2024 to take action on the bill.
