An attempt to smuggle two children into the United States was foiled by U. S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers.
According to a CBP press release, on Thursday, August 29, at about 11:30 p.m., a 28-year-old woman approached the San Luis Port of Entry with two children in her car. The woman presented U. S. birth certificates for the children, ages 8 and 11. The woman was referred to secondary inspection where the woman claimed the children were family members. Officers were able to determine that there was no family relationship between the woman and the kids. The birth certificates were legitimate, but did not belong to the children. The minors were Mexican citizens and did not possess valid entry documents. The children told officers that they had been given sedatives prior to crossing the border. The woman was arrested for alleged violations of U. S. immigration laws.
