A Saturday morning fire left the residents of Gio's Mobile Home Estates without electricity.

The fire was in a transformer on the park site. Initially 16 homes were without power, but when a privately contracted  troubleshooter tried to fix the damage, there was a complete system failure leaving all 271 homes in the park without electricity. 

The City of El Centro said that the owners of Gio's had secured some hotel rooms for the affected residents. The City and the owners of the met. The discussion included key department heads from the city and the Imperial County Office of Emergency Services. The meeting resulted in an action plan that is to see a San Diego-based electrical contractor working to secure needed parts to restore power with a local electrical contractor on standby to assist if required. Once parts are obtained, installation could be completed in 12 hours. The transformer will then undergo safety and load balancing testing. Officials are hopeful the repairs will be completed by sometime Monday. 

Assistance for displaced residents includes includes 164 rooms that the park management team has secured. An estimated 1,000 residents have been displaced, most self-evacuated by Saturday evening. Wellness checks are being conducted on residents who have chosen to remain on site. A security company and El Centro Police are ensuring park security. The American Red Cross has deployed a team to support the operation of a potential emergency shelter.
