Methamphetamine was found concealed in a cargo of tomatillos at the Otay Mesa Commercial Facility.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers found 378 pounds of meth in a shipment manifested as fresh tomatillos. On Sunday, August 4, shortly after noon, a tractor trailer with a load manifested as tomatillos, entered the port. The big rig was referred to secondary inspection where non-intrusive scanning technology indicated irregularities. CBP offices were than able to extract 50 packages of methamphetamine in the load. The meth weighed 358 pounds and has a street value estimated at over $450,000. The 35-year-old driver of the truck, a valid border crossing card holder, ws turned over to Homeland Security Investigations.
