CBP Officers have intercepted purple fentanyl in two separate smuggling attempts.

On Saturday at about 3;30 p.m., Customs and Border Protection officers at the downtown Calexico Port of Entry referred the 25-year-old man, driving a 2024 pickup truck, to secondary inspection. Using non-intrusive scanning technology, anomalies were discovered in the spare tire. A CBP K-9 team alerted to the tire and a search found 48 pounds of purple fentanyl powder in 20 packages concealed in the tire.

A second incident occurred on Sunday at about 10:20 p.m. when a 31-year-old woman driving a 2007 SUV was referred to secondary inspection. A CBP K-9 team alerted to the SUV and non-intrusive scanning technology indicated anomalies in the dashboard. A closer examination led to the discovery of 16 packages of purple colored fentanyl with a total weight slightly over 40 pounds.

Both drivers were turned over to Homeland Security Investigations.
