The national Weather Service (NWS) has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the Imperial Valley.

According to NWS, an Excessive Heat Warning means that a period of very hot temperatures, even by local standards, will occur. The weather service suggests that action should be taken to lessen the impact the extreme heat. Widespread heat conditions are expected to develop by Friday across the Imperial Valley. Forecast highs are expected in the 115-degree range with heat index values making it feel 4 or 5 degrees warmer. The Excessive Heat Warning will remain in effect until 8:00 p.m. Sunday. Temperatures will drop to near normal by Monday and into next week. The NWS says that there is a major risk for heat-related illnesses for pets, livestock and people.
