(US Department of the Treasury recently unveiled a sweeping round of sanctions)...They targeted nearly 50 individuals and entities tied to the Sinaloa Cartel.
They aimed at deep political corruption network centered in Mexicali. They say the network used federal officials to protect operations along the US/Mexico Border. At the center of the Mexicali corruption scheme is Carlos Alberto Torres Torres, the ex-husband of the Governor of Baja California. His brother, Luis Alfonso Torres Torres was also named. Baja Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda has responded to the sanctions. She has ordered a comprehensive audit of all state contracts to determine if any blacklisted companies held agreements with the state government.. The Goivernor has instructed the state's Major Official's Officee to immediately verify any contractual links with the newly sanctioned entities. All corresponding files are being submitted to the Department of Antti-Corruption and Good Governance for legal review.
