(The California Transportation approves the investment)...More than $2 billion has been approved to improve and maintain a transportation system that serves as a backbone for the world's fifth largest economy.
The approved funding will support the next generation of transportation projects, ranging from bridge maintenance and rail system upgrades to enhanced railroad safety features and increased access for bicyclists and pedestrians. Imperial County projects include over $1 million to construct pedestrian improvements for the Calexico Intermodal Transportation Center. $471,000 for Calexico Roadway rehabilitation. $89,000 to Holtville for pedestrian and bicycle improvements on 9th street between Melon Road and Olive Avenue. $67,000 to Calipatria. And $331,000 to Caltrans for Interstate 8 and Highway 78 to rehiab six bridges.
