U. S. Border Patrol agents stopped a suspicious vehicle on Interstate 8 east of Calexico.
The agents were patrolling the area at about noon on Thursday, May 23, when they made the stop after watching the vehicle driving erratically and swerving in and out of traffic. A Border Patrol K-9 team alerted to the floorboards of the vehicle and a search led to an aftermarket compartment underneath the floorboards. The compartment contained packages loaded with thousands of blue pills that tested positive for fentanyl. A total of 133 pounds of fentanyl was seized. The driver, a U. S. citizen, was turned over to the Imperial County Narcotics Task Force for further investigation.
