Multiple Imperial Valley law enforcement agencies collaborated in the arrest of a carjacking suspect.
Calexico Police responded to the report of an assault and carjacking on Friday. It was determined that a victim had been assaulted and his pickup truck taken by force. Calexico Police sent out information about the crime to all Valley law enforcement agencies and the truck was located, abandoned in El Centro, a short time later. Calexico officers, assisted by the Imperial County Sheriff's Office Scientific Investigations Unit, collected evidence at the scene and were able to view video surveillance footage from the initial crime scene. Officers were able to identify a suspect, 23-year-old Diego Demara of Calexico. Demara, a convicted felon and known gang member, was arrested on Saturday and booked into Imperial County Jail on charges of carjacking and Aggravated Battery.
