(Hilary Wreaks havoc).....The Category 4 Hurricane pushed rain into the county Friday.

After coming ashore Saturday night south of the border, the hurricane downgraded to a Tropical Storm as it entered Californina. The storm brought 60 mile per hour winds, and a lot of rain. Preliminary estimates are that between 1-4 inches of rain fell in and around Imperial County. This created flash flooding, with voluntary evacuation warnings issued for Ocotillo, Salton City, Bombay Beack and Desert Shores. The American Red Cross set up an evacuation center at the Community Center in El Centro. Large rocks fell onto Interstate 8 near In-Koh-Pah. The debris was still being cleaned up Monday morning, with traffic escorted thru the area. Flooded roads included Highway 98 from Brockman Road to Ocotillo, along with several other county roads. Several canals overran their backs. There were over 6, 000 power outages. By Monday the number was down to around 500 without power. The gusty winds blew down 40 power poles, damaged homes and other buildings. Several traffic incidents and fires were also reported. Fresno County sent a fast water rescue and search and rescue team was sent to assist Imperial County. The County of Imperial, City of El Centro, City of Brawley and the City of Calipatria all issued State of Emergency Declarations. The Declarations allow Departments to more readily respond, allocate resources and request additional support as needed. No serious injuries have been reported.
