(Late night inspection results in arrest)...It happened recently at the Border Patrol Checkpoint near San Clemente.
A vehicle pulled up to the checkpoint in the early morning hours. The Border Patrol agent became suspicious after noticing the oppupants of the vehicle were the male driver and an infant. The vehicle was sent to the secondary inspection area. During questioning the driver said he had picked up the infant in Otay Mesa. The driver said he did not know the child's name or where he was taking the child. Child protective services were contacted and they took custody of the infant. The driver was turned over to Homeland Security investigations for further investigation. The Border Patrol says to prevent as much as possible the illicit smuggling of Humans, drugs and other contraband, they maintain a high level of vigilance on corridors away from the Nation's Borders.
