The COVID-19 State of Emergency will end in California.

Governor Gavin Newsom announced last October that he would lift the declaration on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, after nearly 3 years after the proclamation. With the number of active cases and hospitalizations having dropped significantly, the State of Emergency is no longer necessary. Some of the demands that came from the declaration have already been lifted. Indoor mask mandates, public gatherings and other restrictions were lifted earlier. Masking will continue to be mandated in hospitals and nursing homes. Statewide, some testing and vaccination locations are scheduled to close. The
