Winds that reached 60 miles per hour whipped through the Imperial Valley Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

The high winds resulted in Interstate 8 being closed to high profile vehicles from Ocotillo to Willows Road in San Diego County. At least 2 tractor-trailer rigs were blown over late Tuesday afternoon. State Route 86 was closed for several hours from the Border Patrol Checkpoint to Riverside County due to the high winds and limited visibility. A utility pole was down blocking State Route 111 near Keystone Road shutting down the highway for several hours. Scattered power outages were reported throughout the Imperial and Coachella Valleys.

A wind-whipped brush fire near Drew Road and Interstate 8 prompted the evacuation of Storms Crossing RV Park shortly before midnight. An evacuation center was established at Southwest High School. The three-alarm fire was battled overnight by several local fire departments.
