(SSA invites Arizona Senator to discuss the Salton Sea situation)....Arizona Senator Mark Kelley says federal mitigation funding for the Salton Sea should be withheld.
The Senator asked the Department of Interior to withhold the funding until California agrees to water cutbacks on the Colorado River. The river is in a severe drought situation. The state of Arizona has already had its water allotment from the river cut. Senator Kelly is running for re-election in November. The Salton Sea Authority has sent a letter to the Senator in response to his request from the Department of Interior. The Authority invites the Senator to meet with them and the local officials to discuss the Salton Sea and the health hazards created by a receding Lake. The letter explains the Drought on the River and the Salton Sea are two very serious, but different issues.
