The Central Union High School District will host exceptional students for a Sparty Tunnel Run Friday night.
Exceptional high school, Jr. High School and Middle School students will enter Cal Jones Field through the Sparty Tunnel that the players use when they enter the field. The event has been put together by Josh Wise, Athletic Director at Central and James Gonzlez, President of ASIC, Autism Support of Imperial County. A helping hand to recognize these special needs students was provided by Imperial Valley Respite who donated $2,500 for the event. The money will be used to feed the students and families pizza, snacks and refreshments.
According to Wise, students will gather in front of the STEM Building at 6:00 p.m. and then meet the Spartan football players. At about 6:30 the special needs students will be escorted as they run through the Sparty Blow Up Tunnel and out to the 50-yard line where they will be met by the cheerleaders. The students will then be seated in the brand-new Spartan Wall next to the scoreboard. They will be the first student body to sit there during a football.
Students from the Central Union High School District, El Centro Elementary School District as well as Heber, Seeley and Meadows Union School Districts will be participating.
