The Imperial Valley Jewish Community will celebrate holidays in person after a two-year absence.

Congregation Beth Jacob will begin the celebrations on Sunday, September 25, 2022, as they mark Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Services will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the synagogue on Adam Avenue in El Centro. Services will be led by student Rabbi Eden Glaser. There will also be services on Monday, September 26, at 10:00 a.m. The Rosh Hashanah service begins with the blowing of the Shofar, or ram's horn, to awaken the congregation. According to tradition, Rosh Hashanah is a joyous holiday but not an occasion for revelry. Rather, it i a time for prayer and personal reflection.

The local Jewish community will continue with Kol Nidre services on Tuesday, October 4 and Yom Kippur services on Wednesday, October 5 at 10:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
