Yuma County Sheriff's Office and federal authorities are investigating a small plane crash near Dateland. Arizona.
At about 1:50 p.m. Friday, an Arizona Department of Public Safety Trooper on patrol on Interstate 8 near Spot Road saw a large plume of smoke in the desert. The trooper investigated and found a small aircraft had crashed and was fully engulfed in flames. YCSO deputies responded and reported that the pilot and a passenger had died in the crash. The identity of the two victims has not been released. The aircraft was identified as a Van's RV-6. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
