U.S. Border Patrol agents at the Highway 86 checkpoint snagged over $250,000 worth of drugs early this week.
A car approached the checkpoint and was referred to secondary inspection where a Border Patrol K-9 alerted to the vehicle. An inspection of the car led to the discovery of three large bags containing a total of 117 packages. Most of the packages contained methamphetamine. There was one package of a variety of colored pills of fentanyl. There was also a small bag of heroin. The total value of the various drugs is estimated at nearly $286,000. The driver of the car, a 42-year-old woman, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., was turned over to the Imperial County Narcotics Task Force.
