Two travelers that failed to declare pharmaceutical medications were penalized nearly $17,000.
According to the U. S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), on August 19, at about 3:45 p.m., a 24-year-old man was referred to secondary inspection at the downtown Calexico port of entry. CBP officers found undeclared boxes of veterinary pharmaceuticals, a total of 354 pieces, hidden in the car. On August 27, at about 11:009 a.m., a 26-year-old man was referred to secondary inspection where CBP agents discovered 117 undeclared assorted pharmaceutical items hidden in a sealed microwave oven box in the trunk. CBP officers determined that in both cases the pharmaceuticals did not meet federal, state or local standard regulations. Both drivers were issued monetary penalties totaling approximately $17,000 for failing to declare merchandise.
