(Alvarez offers a solution)...Karina Alvarez was at the Board of Supervisors meeting this week.
The accountant is the only candidate running for the office of Auditor/Controller on the June Ballot. The office was left open following the felony convictions of Josue Mercado. The County Board of Supervisors came up with a plan on April 12. The plan was to appoint Alvarez to fill the vacancy, since she was the only person thsat appeared interested in being Auditor/Controller. There was a snag. Alvarez is on the McCabe Union Elementary School Board. The question was, could she serve on two elected positions simultaneously. The County Counsel sent Alvarez a letter saying saying they did not feel she could hold two elected positions at the same time. Alvarez told the board this week she would resign from the school board. Problem solved. The Supervisors had already agreed to appoint her to the position, contingent on a reloution to the delima.
