A traffic accident shortly after noon Saturday claimed the life of a Yuma woman.

The accident occurred in the 2900 block of West 1st Street in Yuma. The Yuma County Sheriff's Office says a silver Lexus was westbound on 1st Street when for unknown reasons, it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Chevy Trailblazer. The driver of the Lexus, 43-year-old Maria Villa of Yuma, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Trailblazer was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
