(One of the longest murder trials in Imperial County)....It is finally over.

Ioan Laurint has been sentenced. Laurint was on trial for the 2017 murder of Attorney Ann Marie Zimmermann. The trial lasted for five years of delays and motions. That included competency hearings, language issues and more. In 2017 the victim had been reported missing. El Centro police investigated. The investigation led them to a room in a motel on Adams Avenue. In the room, they found the victim stabbed to death,m and Laurint suffering several self inflicted stabb wounds. He was treated at a San Diego Hospital, before being placed under arrests. After five years, Laurint agreed to a deal. He entered a guilty plea to second degree murder. The Superior Court judge this week sentenced him to 15 years to life in prison. At the sentencing hearing, Laurint asked for forgiveness and expressed remorse for what he did. He was given credit for the five years he spent in county jail.
