Effective March 11 schools in California will not have to require students wear masks.

The masks will no longer be required by the state but are highly recommended. Local school districts will have the option of requiring masks if they choose. The mask mandate for students in California public schools and childcare facilities have been in effect since early on in the COVID-19 pandemic. Students will still have the option of wearing masks if they choose.
