A truckload of onions had more to it than first met the eye.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Otay Mesa commercial port discovered nearly 1,200 small packages of methamphetamine hidden in a shipment of onions from Mexico. A CBP canine team screened to truck and trailer and alerted to the shipment. CBP officers located the packages of meth, shaped like onions, mixed in the sacks of real onions. Over 1,330 pounds of methamphetamine, worth about $2.9 million. The driver, a 46-year-old citizen of Mexico, was arrested.
