The number of active COVID-19 cases in Imperial County has dropped a little.

The Imperial County Public Health Department updated the numbers on Thursday morning. The Wednesday update showed 3,541 active cases and on Thursday that number dipped to 2,962. There are 28 COVID-19 positive individuals in local Intensive Care Units with no ICU beds available. Thirty-nine individuals remain on ventilators. Death toll from the virus is 819. The Health Department says that the Delta and Omicron variants are showing up in the county. According to the Health Department, most infections from the variants of concern are unvaccinated individuals. 23 pr cent children under 12 and 30 per cent are asylum seekers. To date, more than 377,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the county.
