(Border Patrol rescues two)...It happened Monday evening.

El Centro Sector Dispatch were notified of a 911 call from two female hikers stating they were lost. Agents were notified of the distress call and responded to the last known GPS coordinates provided by the hikers. The El Centro BORSTAR Unit participated in the search. At around 7:30 Monday evening, the Unit located the two hikers seven miles North of the US/Mexico Border, north of Interstate 8 in the Jacumba Wilderness region. The women, both United States Citizens, were found to be safe and did not require medical attention. Since October, El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents have successfully rescued 78 individuals who were lost, in distree or abandoned by smugglers
