A motorcycle rider died when he drove in to the path of a big rig.

The accident occurred shortly after noon Thursday on State Route 78 in Ocotillo Wells. According to reports, a 36-year old man from Oceanside was riding an off-road motorcycle and had stopped on the shoulder of the road but then pulled out onto the roadway and into the path of a big rig. The rider was thrown from the bike and sustained major injuries. He was flown to Desert Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
