Several people reported seeing a man carrying a rifle near Kennedy Middle School in El Centro.

The reports were received by El Centro Police dispatchers shortly after 7:00 a.m. Wednesday. The man was located by ECPD officers just a few minutes later in the 1100 block of North 6th Street and finally detained as he rode a bicycle on 8th Street. The gun in question was a BB gun and the man told officers that he no longer wanted the gun. The weapon was taken by police to be destroyed. The man was released.
