An early Sunday accident took out a utility pole and blocked a county road.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the accident at Shank and Best Roads shortly after 2:00 a.m. after a vehicle went out of control and hit the utility pole. The pole remained upright but only because the vehicle was holding it in place. The Imperial Irrigation District responded to the scene to repair the damage but the roadway was closed for over 6 hours while the crews worked.Once the pole was stabilized the vehicle was able to be towed. No injuries were reported and th accident remains under investigation.
