El Centro Police arrested a man for setting several fires Thursday afternoon.

Police responded to the area of Imperial Avenue and the railroad tracks at about 4:38 Thursday afternoon after receiving reports of a man carrying a backpack walking along the tracks and lighting fires. A short time later officers were able to locate the suspect walking along Imperial Avenue. The suspect was arrested and booked at Imperial County Jail on charges of Arson. Multiple fires had been set on the southside of the railroad tracks from the 1000 block to 1500 block.
