A 47-year old U.S. citizen was arrested attempting to smuggle 38 pounds of cocaine.

According to the U. S. Border Patrol , at about 10:30 Saturday morning , the man approached the Highway 86 checkpoint near Salton City driving an SUV. The man was referred the vehicle aside for further inspection. A Border Patrol K-9 detection team alerted to the rear passenger seat of the SUV. Agents then located a hidden compartment under the floorboards. Nearly 38 pounds of cocaine was found in that hidden compartment. The drugs have an estimated street value of more than $600,000. The man was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
