(Independence Day in Mexico).... Celebrations have been somewhat subdued this year.
Mexican officials say it is difficult to celebrate under the current COVID mandates in Mexico. They say most of the celebrating has been virtual. Father Miguel Hidalgo delivered the Grito de Dolores at just before midnight on September 15th 1810. The Grito was the call to arms to unite residents to revolt against the Spanish rule in Mexico. Spain governed Mexico for 300 years before the revolt. The fight for independence lasted 11 years before freedom was finally won.
