He is Brawley City Councilman Ramon Castro. The Marine Veteran recently completed a 45 day walk along the US/Mexico Border. The over 2,000 mile trek began in San Diego and ended in Texas. The purpose was to bring attention to deported US Veterans who served in the military, many in combat missions, only to be deported for committing minor crimes. The walk was the initial event of the American Veterans Homefront Initiative, an organization created by Castro to stop the deportation of American Veterans. In announcing he selection, the State Senator praised Castro and his efforts.
