At that time, The Chief will read a prepared statement. The plans to retire were originally reported in the Calexico Chronicle. The Chief confirmed the report in a text message Sunday evening. Chief Chalo mentioned his intentions at an event over the weekend. He officially submitted a leeter to the Calexico City Manager on August 16 describing his intention to call it a career in December. The Chief says he wants to spend more time with his family, among other issues, as his reason to retire when his contract ius up at the end of the year. In December, the Chief will have served over 30 years with the Calexico Police Department. He says he will assist in the search for a replacement to his position, even if he has to stay on passed his retirement date.
