An early Sunday morning accident resulted in major injuries to a driver.

According to Yuma County Sheriff's Office , the accident was reported at about 1:00 a.m. Sunday in the area of Avenue A and County 16th Street. A small car was northbound on Avenue A approaching the intersection of County 16th Street when a pick up truck , also northbound , attempted to pass the car. The car drifted into the southbound lane and collided with the pick up. The driver of the car was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center and then transferred to a Phoenix area hospital. The driver of the pick up was not injured but a passenger in the truck sustained minor injuries. According to YCSO alcohol does appear to be a factor in the collision. The accident remains under investigation.
