Imperial County emergency services agencies were kept very busy Tuesday as three major injury accidents marred the day.
The first accident was reported at about 6:39 a.m. on Highway 86 near Treadwell Boulevard. A diver was injured when his vehicle went out of controlled rolled over. About 30 feet of guard rail was damaged and one lane of Highway 86 was closed for repairs by Caltrans.
At 2:00 p.m. , several people were injured when a van and a pick up truck collided on northbound Highway 86 at Twin Bridges. One of the injured was flown to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs with major injuries. The roadway was blocked for a time for emergency crews on the scene and for a helicopter to land.
An accident at Dogwood and Willoughby Roads at about 3:36 p.m. claimed the life of a woman. Initial reports indicate that a car and a pick up collided and both vehicles went into a canal. One vehicle was fully submerged and Imperial County firefighters entered the canal to extricate several people in the car. The deceased victim was located about one-half mile downstream from the accident. A Dive Team was called to recover the vehicles from the canal.
All three accidents remain under investigation.
