A hit and run accident Friday afternoon caused extensive damage to a fence.

El Centro police are investigating the accident that was reported at about 12:45 p.m. Friday. An older model Toyota 4Runner took out about 25 feet of fence on the northland of Swarthout Park. A wooden barrier at the end of Oak Street was also damaged. The driver of the SUV left the scene of the accident. The City of El Centro Parks Department estimated that approximately $1,500 in damage occurred.
