A stubborn river-bottom fire kept firefighters busy Sunday.

The fire in the area of Kubler and Weed Roads , west of Calexico , was reported at about 2:20 p.m. Sunday. Several roads in the area were closed for approximately three hours due to heavy smoke and fire personnel activity. The Imperial County Fire Department along with crews and equipment from several city departments battled the two-alarm blaze.
