(Project closer to reality)....It is a Desert Shores Project.
Desert Shores has long advocated for attention to address the impacts from the lowered water levels at the Salton Sea. The community was developed in the 1960's as a resort with on and off water residences. It has declined over the years due to changes at the Salton Sea. The impact to real estate in the region has resulted in the Desert Shores community, like most at and around the Salton Sea, becoming affordable shelter to some of the most disadvantaged people of the region. The community has for years been searching for a viable solution to the problem. Last year, the State of California through its California Natural Resource Agency and the Imperial County Air Pollution Control District signed a meorandum of understanding outlining a framework detailing tasks necessary to enhance the likelihood of the projects success. The Desert Shores project is expected to cover 30 acres, including water channels that once connected the Desert Shores Marina to the Salton Sea. The project aims to meet the goals of habitat restoration and dust suppression by constructing a berm across the former boat channel and refilling the channels with water that provides habitat for fish and supports fish-eating birds and other enhanced habitat benefits, including revegetation and conventional or floating islands. The project is beginning to take shape. The Bureau of Reclamation is reportedly providing $1 million to help fund the project
