(A swarm of earthquakes began Friday night)...Most of the quakes were considered micro-quakes, measuring below a magnitude 3.

Saturday the intensity picked up, with several quakes measuring a magnitude 3 and above. At 10:55 Saturday morning a magnitude 5.3 rocked the area, knocking out power to the Calipatria area. Power was restored at just after 2:00 Saturday afternoon. There have been over 100 micro-quakes reported. At 10:44 Sunday night a magnitude 3.6 temblor was recorded and at 7:45 a magnitude 3.5 quake was recorded. The US Geological Survey says earthquake swarms are not unusual for the area. They said the quakes have mostly come from the Westmorland fault. They said as long as the fault remains active, there will be swarms. They said it is possible the area could be hit by a magnitude 5.8 or even slightly higher before the swarm subsides.
